On May 26, 2023, the vibrant halls of Shakey’s Lagro branch came alive with the excited laughter and eager faces of our pre-school to elementary students. Organized as an engaging extracurricular activity by YASCI, the Shakey’s Pizza Making event aimed to provide a unique learning experience while fostering creativity, teamwork, and culinary skills among our young learners.
Once settled at their designated workstations, the children eagerly donned their miniature chef hats and aprons, excited to unleash their culinary talents. Under the guidance of the Shakey’s staff, they were introduced to the art of pizza making, starting from the foundation of crafting the perfect dough.
Our little chefs enthusiastically rolled up their sleeves, kneading the dough, and stretching it into desired shapes. With flour-dusted hands and faces beaming with concentration, they transformed the plain dough into miniature pizza crusts. This hands-on experience allowed the children to explore their creativity and engage in sensory play.
As they meticulously adorned their pizzas with their chosen toppings, the Shakey’s staff provided guidance and shared interesting facts about the ingredients. This interactive session not only expanded their culinary knowledge but also instilled an appreciation for the diversity of flavors and the importance of healthy eating.
The event kicked off with a warm welcome from the Shakey’s staff, who greeted our students with cheerful smiles. The children were then divided into small groups, ensuring everyone had an opportunity to actively participate in the pizza-making process. Each group was accompanied by a friendly Shakey’s staff member, who served as their guide throughout the event.
With their crusts ready, it was time for the most exciting part – topping the pizzas with a variety of mouthwatering ingredients. The young chefs gathered around a colorful array of toppings, including fresh vegetables, flavorful sauces, gooey cheese, and crispy meats. From classic choices like pepperoni and mushrooms to unique combinations of flavors, the children were encouraged to experiment and let their imaginations run wild.
With their pizzas skillfully topped, the young chefs eagerly handed them over to Shakey’s staff, who placed them in the blazing hot ovens. While the pizzas were baked to perfection, the students took a short break to enjoy a refreshing beverage and exchange stories about their pizza creations.
As the tantalizing aroma of freshly baked pizzas filled the air, it was time to celebrate their culinary accomplishments. The children gathered around a communal table, adorned with colorful decorations, to savor the fruits of their labor. Amidst laughter and cheers, they delighted in their homemade pizzas, savoring every bite and relishing the flavors they had created.
The Shakey’s Pizza Making event provided numerous educational and social benefits for our pre-school to elementary students. Through this hands-on experience, the children learned about culinary techniques, food preparation, and the importance of working together as a team. They also developed skills in creativity, decision-making, and sensory exploration.
Moreover, the event fostered a sense of camaraderie and cooperation among the students, as they shared ingredients, helped one another, and celebrated each other’s accomplishments. This experience not only enriched their social skills but also instilled a sense of pride and confidence in their abilities.
