The Senior High School Program
The SHS Curriculum within the K to 12 Program aims to produce graduates who exhibit the qualities of holistic development, proficiency in 21st century skills, and preparedness for the future. These graduates will have a well-rounded development that encompasses various aspects of their personality, skills, and knowledge.
They will be equipped with essential skills required in the modern era, including learning and innovation, life and career skills, communication skills, and information media and technology skills. Furthermore, they will be well-prepared to pursue higher education, acquire middle-level skills, or enter the workforce as employees or entrepreneurs. The curriculum is designed to provide them with the necessary knowledge and abilities to thrive in their chosen paths.
A product of consultations among the Department of Education (DepEd), Commission on Higher Education (CHED), Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), other government agencies and labor market partners, the SHS curriculum was developed with the learners’ livelihood and further education readiness in mind. It recognizes the learners’ community, culture, competencies, and career options.
The K to 12 program is a transformative vehicle for local and national development. Through the provision of quality education for all, the K to 12 program intends to develop and harness the skills and competencies of the Filipino youth to the development of self, community, and nation.
In addition to the core curriculum and specialized tracks, the Senior High School program offers work immersion, research projects, and electives. It provides guidance for college and careers, promotes entrepreneurship, integrates ICT, and prepares students for higher education or employment.
The Senior High School program aims to produce well-rounded and skilled graduates who are readyfor higher education, middle-level skills development, or immediate employment. By providing a comprehensive and flexible curriculum, along with various opportunities for practical application and career exploration, SHS prepares students for success in their chosen paths and contributes to the development of the individual, community, and nation as a whole.
TRACKS OFFERED
Accountancy, Business and Management (ABM)
A comprehensive program in Accounting, Business, and Management. Learners gain a strong foundation in Business principles, Finance, and Entrepreneurship. Through practical learning and industry exposure, learners develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Graduates are well-prepared for careers in Accounting, Finance, or Entrepreneurship, with a focus on ethical values and social responsibility.
General Academics Strand (GAS)
Provides a well-rounded education in various subjects. It offers learners a broad knowledge base in Mathematics, Science, Languages, Humanities, and Social Sciences. Graduates are prepared for diverse career options and further studies in different fields. The General Academics strand fosters critical thinking, effective communication, and a comprehensive understanding of multiple disciplines.
Humanities and Social Science (HUMSS)
Provides learners with a broad understanding of human society, culture, and creative expression. Graduates can pursue careers in fields such as communication, journalism, psychology, education, or social work. The HUMSS strand nurtures critical thinking, creativity, and a deep appreciation for the complexities of human experience.
Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM)
Equips learners with a strong foundation in these fields, fostering critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Graduates can pursue careers as engineers, scientists, IT professionals, or medical and healthcare professionals. The STEM strand prepares learners for the rapidly evolving STEM industries.
Home Economics (HE)
Focuses on practical skills and knowledge related to home management, food technology, and livelihood education. It equips learners with essential life skills in cooking, sewing, budgeting, and entrepreneurship. Graduates can pursue careers in the culinary arts, hospitality industry, fashion, or start their own businesses. The HE strand emphasizes practical application and prepares students for everyday life and career success.
Industrial Arts (IA)
Focuses on practical skills and knowledge related to various trade and vocational disciplines. It covers areas such as carpentry, welding, electrical installation, automotive technology, and electronics. Graduates can pursue careers as skilled technicians, craftsmen, or pursue further studies in technical fields. The IA strand emphasizes hands-on learning and prepares learners for careers in the industrial and technical sectors.
Information and Communications Technology (ICT)
Focuses on computer literacy, programming, and digital skills. It equips learners with knowledge in software development, network administration, and digital media. Graduates can pursue careers in IT, Programming, Web development, or Multimedia. The ICT strand emphasizes technological proficiency and prepares students for the digital age and careers in the Technology industry.
