Class Suspension Due to Volcanic Smog

We would like to inform everyone that classes have been suspended in all private and public schools across all levels in Caloocan City today, August 19, 2024. This decision has been made in response to the presence of volcanic smog, which poses significant health risks to our residents.

Volcanic smog, commonly known as “vog,” is a type of air pollution that results from volcanic activity. It contains sulfur dioxide and other harmful particles that can cause respiratory problems, eye irritation, and other health issues, especially for vulnerable individuals such as children, the elderly, and those with pre-existing conditions.

Safety Reminders

Given the current situation, we strongly advise everyone to take the necessary precautions:

  1. Stay Indoors: As much as possible, avoid going outside to reduce exposure to the harmful smog.
  2. Wear Face Masks: If you must go outside, please wear a face mask, preferably an N95 mask, to filter out harmful particles from the air.
  3. Keep Windows and Doors Closed: Ensure that your homes are well-sealed to prevent smog from entering.
  4. Monitor Health: Be vigilant for any signs of respiratory distress, such as difficulty breathing, coughing, or eye irritation. If symptoms worsen, seek medical attention immediately.
  5. Stay Updated: Keep yourself informed about the latest updates from local authorities regarding air quality and any further announcements.

The safety and well-being of our students, faculty, and the entire community are our top priority. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and will provide updates as necessary. Please stay safe and take care of your health during this time.

Classes and regular school activities will resume once the situation has been deemed safe by authorities. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
